I throw my bowls as double-walled objects, thus each possesses an inner space. In Japanese aesthetics the empty space between filled space is called “ma”. Empty space is considered at least as important as the things we can see and touch. It is what completes, makes whole. This is why I want people to handle my vessels, to touch their surfaces, to make contact. Until something happens, something that transcends form and surface.
